The GenTimer EX, is a supplemental system installed on EPA 07 and later Diesel Vocational Trucks. This system provides two sources of information for the operator to aid in the notification and scheduling of parked DPF Exhaust Re-generation events.
As with our prior DPF Alert Systems an external device is used to signal an operator who is outside of the truck, that a stationary DPF re-gen is required. The external device can consist of a warning horn, lamp, strobe or a combination of visual and audible.
The GenTimer EX System adds a digital timer that when the engine ECM requests a stationary re-gen, the counter begins to count up as well as activating the external alert.
Included in the GenTimer EX Controller is a Re-gen Command Switch duplicating the OEM Re-gen Switch function. The Re-gen Command Switch is used to re-set the timer when the re-gen event is complete.
Operation
The GenTimer EX was designed to be virtually operator independent. Once the system is installed, verification that the system is “armed” is observing the digital display is illuminated. Just like a digital clock for telling time. It’s always on.
The truck or GSE is operated just as it has been prior to the GenTimer EX installation. When the exhaust soot load has reached a point where the Engine ECM activates the DPF Lamp, the digital counter begins to count up and the external alert activates.
The operator then proceeds to an approved location, configures the truck for a stationary re-gen and depresses the Regen Start Button on the controller. The timer will continue counting up allowing for documenting re-gen elapsed time if desired.
When the re-gen event is over, the operator presses the Re-gen Start Button again to re-set the timer. This is the only change for the driver. Press the button when done!
Should the operator need to shut down the engine prior to performing the stationary re-gen, the timer will suspend and, when the engine is started again, if the re-gen request is still active, the timer will continue to count up. This feature was installed to allow for shift changes, driver breaks and other personnel needs.

OEM Considerations
The GenTimer EX is designed for installation on Diesel powered vehicles equipped with Diesel Particulate Filters that include the capability to perform a parked DPF regeneration initiated with a driver command switch. Full functionality requires the OEM Re-Gen Switch to be an analog ECM input. Cummins CM2150, CM2250, DDEC 6 and CAT CRS/ARD are compatible. CAN and or Gateway Re-gen input “switch” control will limit the GenTimer EX switch to a timer re-set function only.aa timer re-set function only.
